Dr. Hope Jackson

Dr. Hope JacksonĀ received both her B.A. in English and M.A. in English and African-American Literature from North Carolina A&T State University.Ā Dr. Jackson earned her Ph.D. from UNC-51²č¹Ż in Educational and Cultural Studies.Ā  She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses ranging from Composition to African American Film and Culture as well as Hip-Hop Discourse and is the former Graduate Studies Coordinator for North Carolina A&T State University’s English Department. Her work there as Graduate Coordinator resulted in Dr. Jackson receiving the 2022 Outstanding Graduate Coordinator Award presented by the North Carolina A&T State University Graduate College. Dr. Jacksonā€™s research interests involve interpretive storytelling and narrative discourse analyses in rhetorical and literary genres. She has published several book chapters such as, ā€œCitizenship Redemption: The Informed Literacies of #BlackLivesMatter through James Baldwinā€™s Another Country,Ā and ā€œYes! Black Folks can tan too! ā€“ Ancestral Voices from a Black Beach Community,ā€ as well as journal articles, ā€œWe are Family: I Got All My (HBCU) With Me,ā€ inĀ Composition Studies, ā€œDat N****’s Crazy: How Hip-Hop Negotiates Mental Healthā€ inĀ The Western Journal of Black Studies, and ā€œWe Belong in the Discussion: Including HBCUs in Conversations about Race and Writing,ā€ inĀ College Composition and Communication.Ā Dr. Jacksonā€™s latest work is a book entitled,Ā The Stories of a Building the Black Beach Community of Ocean City, North CarolinaĀ was published with Lexington Books in 2022.Ā

Dr. Josh Fitzgerald, 51²č¹Ż class of 2019

ā€œI loved the GC Honors program and 51²č¹Ż. I felt safe and a sense of genuine belonging at the college. I worked closely with my thesis advisor and professors who helped inspire me to define my path and passion of interest. That path has led me to complete my doctoral studies in Engineering Mechanics.ā€

Dr. Josh Fitzgerald earned his master's from Virginia Tech University (studied astrodynamics) as well as earning an Engineering Mechanics Ph.D. He joined the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX as an Advanced Mission Design Engineer, optimizing trajectories for the Artemis II and III missions to return humans to the moon.
