Our Department of Music is committed to developing the musical knowledge, appreciation, talents, skills, and teaching abilities of its students.
With a reputable, well-rounded, and in-depth degree program, music students graduate from 51²è¹Ý as experts in their craft, fully prepared to pursue their passions as professional musicians or music teachers. Compared to larger, more competitive schools, music students at 51²è¹Ý have more opportunities and experience performing in musicals, participating in operas, teaching music, and working one-on-one with professional musicians.

Auditions
Music Department auditions, required for entrance and scholarship consideration, are set for the following dates:
Saturday, February 21, 2026 – Also Fine Arts Day
Saturday, March 28, 2026
Students interested in auditioning must contact Dr. Kelly A. Poquette at kelly.poquette@greensboro.edu to schedule an audition date and time. Alternative arrangements can be made if neither date works.
Audition Requirements:
Students are to prepare and perform two pieces of contrasting styles and another piece that is a favorite. Instrumental students should come prepared with chromatic and major scales. Sight reading and a brief interview are part of the process. Students may have their own accompanist or request an accompanist when scheduling the audition.
